To mark National Apprenticeship Week, we’re highlighting the talented apprentices growing within the Hercules business.
What got you interested in an apprenticeship at Hercules?
I was on an L2 apprenticeship elsewhere that wasn’t quite the right fit for me. I applied at Hercules as an Office Admin while I worked on my next steps and a hiatus.
Bringing my former finance experience to light, I moved into their finance department as an Accounts Assistant. From there, Hercules was willing to invest and put me as an Assistant Accountant L3! I’ve been in finance for a year and enrolled on the apprenticeship since September!
What have you found the most rewarding whilst working for Hercules?
I was able to work collaboratively with Hercules to pave my apprenticeship route, deciding which training provider was right for me and which course to enrol on. I have a lot of responsibility in my role and the opportunities available!
What’s been your favourite thing about your apprenticeship?
Understanding what management accountants do and how other functions within Finance operate. Learning about how the beginning of the purchase ledger processes affects everyone else in my department, and how my job role feeds into the wider business as well as my immediate team. The complexities behind a multitude of tasks that sit within my team are really interesting! Learning how my responsibilities can impact processes elsewhere and add to creating seamlessness across the business.
What’s been the most challenging thing?
The exams!
What are your hobbies in your spare time?
Being super social and going on frequent day trips with friends. I also love to read. The best books that I’ve read so far are The Interview and The House Hunt by CM Ewan. I love a plot twist!
Well-being at work tip?
Don’t bottle things up and speak about your worries and stresses.
What does the future hold for Annie?
Becoming part qualified and AAT trained to Level 4, going onto a higher level from there, and then I can really work out what part of finance I want to progress into. The Journey continues!
